Johnstone Pages: 352 Year: 2019 Publisher: Pinnacle My rating: 5 out of 5 stars What’s not to like about a western story where a young man lives by a high moral code no matter the cost? In the story, Perley Gates is a young man who doesn’t brag, draw attention to himself, but helps those who need him. Perley is on a cattle drive with his brothers when they cross paths with a woman, a baby, and an older man driving a wagon. Emma is the young woman with a baby, recently widowed and running scared. Possum is the man driving the wagon for Emma as he knew her husband and knows her past. Possum has committed himself to get Emma and the baby settled before moving on. The problem with his plan is the numerous trials and hardships these two folks keep running up against. Perely is willing to help but what he doesn’t expect is those dead set against Emma or Possum reaching their destination in one piece. I enjoy a good story that is set in the old west and while life seems to have trials, together people overcome them. Emma is my favorite female character as she has a wee babe to raise, no certain plans for the future other than running, and getting somewhere she can set down roots. The action, tension and climax make for a very enjoyable couple of hours to be lost in a tale where good overcomes evil. Perley is a rare man in the tale, and his code of conduct makes for some interesting conversations with other players in the novel. There are many more adventures with Perley Gates you’ll want to enjoy if you haven’t already. Once again, the Johnstones haven’t let readers down as they bring exciting stories to fans everywhere! Perley Gates isn't your typical western hero. He is modest and don't like to show off. But he helps people when in need and he is fast with a sixgun, really fast. This is almost a cozy western, it's humorous and there is still action and gunplay. I really like this new series from #Kensington and thanks to #Netgalley I was able to enjoy my self for a couple of hours. Perley Gates isn't your typical western hero. Any Western with the name Johnstone attached is going to be a great read. Guaranteed. Add in Perley Gates, one of the more original Johnstone heroes and it's going to be a very entertaining read too. The Johnstone books are all interconnected, you'll find characters from one saga joining the cast in the other sagas. This really adds to the enjoyment you get from the books. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but why limit yourself? For a great Western adventure, pick up any of the Johnstone books. I have yet to read any of their Westerns that I did not consider a 5 star book.

Genuine Friendship and Help Another in the Perley Gates series and it doesn't fail to be a fantastic read. Perley finds himself having to help a single lady with a baby and an old timer get away from trouble and the adventure and bonding that follows him is wonderful and the adventures following Perley are just wonderful. Haven't read any of Johnstone's Perley Gates books so I wasn't as interested in this character as the Jensens are. But, perhaps if I read another one, I will start to become friends with Perley. This was more gritty than the Jensen Christmas series. Haven't read any of Johnstone's Perley Gates books so I wasn't as interested in this character as the Jensens are. Perely Gates is one of my favorite Johnstone heroes. Reluctant gunfighter who is a tad smarter than he appears. He gets volunteered to help a lady, a baby and a Gabby Hayes type head home while running From villains. Somehow he becomes a lawman and...... Well, you will just have to read it.
